Citizen Watch Corporation opened its first multibrand flagship in Tokyo.

Citizen Watch America has confirmed it will open its first ever multibrand flagship showroom outside of Japan this year at 605 Fifth Avenue, New York City, just steps from the iconic Rockefeller Center and a few blocks from the company’s US headquarters in the Empire State Building.

It is expected to open in time for this year’s holiday season in late Fall.

“New York City is a cultural epicentre bringing together all citizens of the world, and the ideal backdrop for Citizen Watch America to introduce our first US based, multi-brand flagship,” says Jeffrey Cohen, President of Citizen Watch America.

“Celebrating the spirit of Citizen Watch’s DNA and expertise in horology while translating the company’s rich heritage through experiential retail, we are proud to bring our brands to life in a new way for all watch wearers of the world.”

Designs of the 7,000 square foot showrooms are still under wraps, but may take inspiration from a flagship in Tokyo, which also presents all of the group’s brands, Citizen, Bulova, Accutron, Frederique Constant and Alpina, under one roof.

The business model is also likely to be replicated in Europe, where a directly owned flagship can promote the full breadth of Citizen Watch Corporation’s brands.

There are no pictures yet of how the New York City flagship will look, but is could combine ideas from this Japanese showroom with a Manhattan twist.

The three storey-space will have dedicated areas for each brand.

The first two floors will be dedicated to retail space for the brands, including presentation of boutique-only watches.

A third floor will include a museum archive and dedicated space for on-site programming, events and community activations.

CWA has hired acclaimed architect Ken Park and his award-winning firm Kenneth Park Architects to lead the project.
